How time is flying…we will all soon be planning on how we will be bagging that big buck for the season!

Although I have only been President for a few months, I have been keeping quite busy. Our new committees have been formed and they have all been meeting to make sure we have a very successfully operating chapter. Our budget committee has met and also our auction committee with plans for our March 7-8, 2008 fundraiser and I am excited to say we will be having new and exciting things happening this year. Please remember to mark this date on your calendar- you won't want to miss it!

The hunt donations have been coming in for the fundraiser and it appears we will have a lot of wonderful hunts to auction. Mike Wilmot always gives 100 % of himself to make sure of it.

Our "Ten Hunt Raffle" appeared to be such a hit this year at the 2007 fundraiser that we are thinking of offering two of these raffles. One before the event and one during the time of the event. What a great Christmas gift this would make! When do you ever have the opportunity to customize your raffle ticket? With this raffle ticket if you would happen to be the lucky winner you can choose from one of ten different hunts. Look for this upcoming raffle or call any of the board members and they will be happy to sell you a ticket.

We scheduled our first Children's Fishing Day along with other local organizations. Of course our first event was rained out so it was rescheduled for September 15, 2007. With this being a combined effort we were limited to the way things were handled; but with good teamwork and collaboration, we are hoping that in the future we can open this event to the public.

Come October 24th – 27th, we will be hosting our two new Wish Hunters! As mentioned prior, we will be at a new facility this year at Jack Pine Safari in Lewiston. We know these boys can't wait to get out there and bag there buck. On Sunday following the hunts, we will be hosting a picnic to congratulate our hunters at Jack Pine Safari. This will allow you the opportunity to personally meet and congratulate the boys on what a great job they did. It's sure to be a very fun and exciting time for everyone who is able to attend. Please call me and let me know if you are planning on attending. For our future planning, if you know of any child with a disability or illness that has a wish to go hunting, please feel free to contact Mike Wilmot or myself.

Before we know it, December will be here. We have tentatively set a date of December 5, 2007 for our annual Christmas party. This party is open to all chapter members in good standing. This is a wonderful event and it's a great way to meet other chapter members, as well as reunite with friends. A special drawing is held at this event each year for the members, and you could be the next individual to bring home a great Christmas gift! Watch for your invitation that will arrive in the mail... we hope you will join us!

Scott Gauthier and Gordon Bennett are getting geared up for the Sportsman Against Hunger program. The chapter has purchased another freezer to hold all of the donations until they are delivered. With donating 2,300 pounds of venison last year it is hard to believe we could ever top that… but with so many giving hunters out there I believe we can! Please contact these two gentlemen if you have a deer to donate or know of anyone that is interested in donating. If you are aware of anyone that is in need of meat to feed their families, please let them know that, as well.

As I am sure it is a goal of yours, too, we are constantly striving to improve the Northeast Michigan chapter and make ours one of the best in the state. We are always looking for new ideas and new faces to bring on board, so if you are interested in becoming more active, or know of someone who would be an asset to our organization, please contact me. I am looking forward to a very successful two years, and hopefully you will be a big part of that!

    Good Hunting,
    Floyd Moore
    President
