A word from our President…
On behalf of the Northeast Michigan Chapter of Safari Club International, I extend a
warm welcome and a heartfelt "Thank You" to each of this evening's participants. The
support of the greater Alpena community for our Chapter continues to be nothing short of
outstanding! It is only through the support and contributions of folks like each of you that
the Northeast Michigan Chapter of Safari Club International is able to expand our efforts
to conserve wildlife resources, educate young hunters and help to protect our hunting
heritage.
Another way that each of you can help to support our Chapter, Safari Club International
and what we stand for, is to become a member of the Northeast Michigan Chapter of
Safari Club International. A membership table is located in the banquet hall this evening.
Stop by the membership table sometime this evening and join!
Included in this program is an extensive list of outfitters, businesses and individuals who
have made substantial donations to this evening's auction. Without the strong support of
each of these individuals and businesses, it would have been impossible for us to put on this
fund raising banquet. I encourage everyone to patronize these outfitters and businesses at
every opportunity. They have made a real commitment to our Chapter and to Safari Club
International!
Finally, I hope that you enjoy yourself this evening. We have worked very hard to put
together a program that will be both entertaining and productive from a fund raising
perspective. Once again, thank you for your support!

Safari Wish
One of the major initiatives of the Northeast Michigan Chapter has been the Safari Wish program.
This program is designed to provide hunting opportunities to those individuals (primarily youth)
who, because of personal health, physical abilities or other limitations, would not otherwise be
able to hunt. Over the last several years, the Chapter has been able to provide hunting
opportunities for twelve individuals. These special opportunities have included hunts at the
Drettmann Ranch near Bellaire; Jack Pine Safaris near Lewiston; Anschuetz Whitetail Way in
Ossineke; a Lake Huron fishing trip with Captain Ed Retherford; and, out-of State hunting trips
with Table Mountain Outfitters in Wyoming and Tuff Ayers Outfitters in Alberta, Canada.
Each participant has been accompanied by a parent, a member of the Chapter's Board of
Directors and a videographer. Every Wish Hunter/fisherman has successfully harvested trophy
quality game or fish. They have received a variety of hunting clothing and hunting equipment from
our many, generous supporters. Trophies taken by each participant have been processed by the
Chapter and mounted by Deepwoods Taxidermy. Current participants also receive a light box
with a picture of the hunter and their trophy.
While the Northeast Michigan Chapter – Safari Club International has received considerable
recognition for our efforts with this program, the reality is that this program would not exist were it
not for the commitment and support we have received from a number of very generous individuals
and businesses. The Northeast Michigan Chapter would like to publicly recognize these
individuals and business. We acknowledge their many contributions and express our deep thanks
and appreciation for their commitment to this program.

"Call a Cab! We'll pick up the tab…"
The Northeast Michigan Chapter of Safari Club International is pleased to offer our guests an
open bar this evening. We value your friendship, your safety, and the safety of everyone in the
Alpena community. For these reasons, we reserve the right to "cut off" any participant who
appears to be intoxicated. We also must insist that you do not drink and drive. The Northeast
Michigan Chapter - SCI is prepared to make sure that everyone gets home safe tonight. If you or
one of your friends are not in condition to drive at the end of the evening please, call a cab and
send the tab to us! We will attempt to have cabs waiting outside of the banquet hall at the end of
the program.
Silent Auction
There are many items to choose from on the Silent Auction tables. Rules for the Silent Auction
are as follows:
-
* Each bid must be at least $5.00 higher than the previous bid.
-
* Each bid must be written on the next line below the previous bid and must include the full
last name of the bidder.
- * All bidding will be closed at 7:00 p.m.
-
* Intentionally blocking access to bid sheets at any time is prohibited.
If two or more bidders are in a bidding war at the designated closing time, they will be allowed to
finish bidding but in short order. High bidders will be posted in the Silent Auction Area shortly
after the established closing. Additionally, a list of high bidders for all Silent Auction items will be
delivered to each table during the Live Auction. Successful bidders must pick up their paperwork
in the Silent Auction area, and then pay for the items at the Auction Cashier Booth located
opposite the podium in the auction hall. Cash, checks, VISA, MasterCard, and American
Express are accepted. Purchasers may then return to the Silent Auction area with a validated
receipt to claim their item(s).
Please – No Smoking in the Main Banquet Hall
or the Silent Auction Area
Smoking is Permitted in the main Lobby only
Live Auction
Details on all live auction items are listed in the Live Auction section found in this program.
Auction merchandise will be on display in the Live Auction area near the podium during the
cocktail hour. If you require further information on an item or a hunt, please inquire at the
auctioneer's podium before the auction begins, or if the specific outfitter is in attendance, see
him/her at their booth.
As is customary, an auction item goes to the highest bidder. Though "spotters" are located
around the room, it is the bidder's responsibility to make their bid noticed – DON'T BE SHY!
Speak loudly, or use the table number signs to get the auctioneer's attention. If you are interested
in a particular item, we strongly advise that you not hesitate to bid. The auctioneer will sell each
item when he determines that no further bids are forth coming. Once an item is proclaimed "sold"
by the auctioneer the opportunity to offer a bid is foreclosed. If a final bid for the same amount is
taken from two people, the bidding will continue but will be closed to everyone except those two
bidders.
All signatures on auction invoices are binding. Please make sure that changes or additions to the
printed description of an item sold during the live auction are recorded on the auction invoice
before you sign it and pay for it.
All auction sales must be finalized by the end of the evening. To finalize the sale, please go to the
Auction Cashier Booth located in the southwest corner of the auction hall and pay for your
purchase(s). Cash, checks, VISA, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted. You may
pick up auction merchandise in the Live Auction area with your validated receipt. Regarding
hunts - purchasers will receive a hunt information packet at the Auction Cashier Booth. Your
validated receipt is your proof of purchase. Within a period of two weeks after the banquet, (but
only after payment has been verified) banquet officials will contact both the hunt donor and the
hunt purchaser to facilitate their communicating with each other to finalize details regarding the
hunt. While the name and address of the hunt donor is printed on the auction receipt, the donor
will not finalize arrangements until word has been received from banquet officials that the hunt has
been paid in full.
Special Note: Telephone bids will be accepted for Live Auction items. Telephone bidders are
required to register prior to March 8, 2008 and pay a $120 registration fee.
Periodically, questions arise relative to bidding during the live auction. The Live Auction can be
fast-moving and sometimes it is difficult for bidders and/or observers to distinguish specific
bidders on any given auction item. Any active bidder has the right to stop the auction and to ask
the identity of other individuals bidding on a given item. Auction spotters and the auctioneers will
gladly respond to such requests.

2008 Live Auction -- SPECIAL NOTES ON HUNTS AND TRIPS
1. All auction items must be paid for and picked up by the end of the evening. Cash,
checks, VISA, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted.
2. Upgrading hunts, while not required is certainly appreciated by our donors. If you do
not want to add another animal, consider bringing along another hunter. This really helps
the outfitters and hunting companies that are trying to help our Chapter! With very few
exceptions, these outfitters and hunting companies are not wealthy philanthropists. They
donate to help wildlife, ensure the future of our hunting tradition, and generate new business
for themselves. The Northeast Michigan Chapter of Safari Club International strongly
encourages our members and guests to do what they can to support these outfitters!
3. If, through no fault of yours, a donor fails to provide a hunt purchased at our auction, we
will make arrangements for a replacement hunt or, at our option, we will refund your
money. However, if you simply find it inconvenient to go on the available dates, have a
personal situation that prevents you from going, or simply change your mind, the Northeast
Michigan Chapter of Safari Club International will assume no responsibility and will not
make any adjustments. Note: It is important that successful bidders contact the designated
outfitter to book specific hunt dates as soon as possible after being notified by the Chapter
that payment for the hunt has been verified.
4. Different hunts include or specify different things, such as meals, lodging, weapon type
(gun, bow, or either), available dates, trophy fees, etc. Please read the descriptions
carefully. Transportation from Michigan to the hunt location is not included with any of the
hunts to be auctioned or raffled. Generally, hunting licenses are not included. There are
some exceptions however, and those hunt descriptions indicate that the license is included.
5. We have done our best to solicit hunts only from reliable and competent outfitters. We
do not, however, guarantee the quality or the success of any hunt purchased at this auction.
Members of our Chapter have hunted with most of the outfitters who have donated hunts
for tonight's auction. We are confident that all of the outfitters will do their very best to
ensure successful bidders a great hunt.
6. Please report the results of your hunt on the form included in your buyer's packet. We
are very interested in knowing how each hunt goes. Your input will help us evaluate the
quality of the hunts that are auctioned and help us to ensure that only good, quality hunts
are made available to our bidders in future years. All hunt purchasers are encouraged to
submit photos and/or a short report for publication in the Chapter newsletter. Please
forward newsletter information to:

A SPECIAL NOTE TO OUR GUESTS:
We ask your kind support of the outfitters and businesses listed above. The only way we can
continue to fight for our collective right to hunt is with the generous support of these businesses
and individuals. The reality however, is that in order to be able to make contributions to
organizations like ours' these businesses need your support.
If you should happen to be the successful bidder for one of the trip items in our Live Auction, we
encourage you to attempt to find a buddy to accompany you on your trip. Additionally, we urge
you to consider the possibility of upgrading your trip to include additional animals and/or days.
Our Auction sponsors are wearing name badges this evening. Should you stop to talk with one at
their booth; be seated at a table were a Sponsor is also seated; or just happen to pass one on
your way to get a drink – please stop for just a moment and thank them for their donation to our
Chapter.
